How we shoot a campaign in one day

Most of our campaigns are shot in a single day in the photo studio under our floor. One day forces every decision to be made before anyone picks up a camera, and it keeps the budget where the client can see it.

The week before

We build the set at half scale out of card first and test the light on it with a phone. Casting happens on Tuesday. By Friday the shot list is fixed at twelve frames, and every frame has a name and a crop for print and for phone.

The client signs the shot list, not a moodboard. A list is harder to misread.

On the day

We start at eight with the hardest frame, while everyone is fresh. Styling works from a rail next to the set, and Ines checks each frame on a calibrated screen before we move on.

If a frame takes longer than forty minutes, we move on and come back to it after lunch.

By six we are packing up, and the client goes home with a contact sheet. Retouching takes another week, and the first posters are usually up ten days after the shoot.
